Airvana selects Embedded Alley for Linux solutions used in mobile infrastructure product development

June 4, 2008 San Jose, California—Embedded Alley announced today that it has been selected by Airvana to provide embedded Linux design and consulting services for next generation mobile infrastructure products. Under the arrangement, Airvana is working with Embedded Alley to leverage its expertise in embedded Linux as the company develops its next-generation radio network controller (RNC).

Through its work in the telecommunications industry, including prior projects with Airvana, Embedded Alleyhas gained a reputation for expertise in applying embedded Linux to carrier-grade products. "We asked EA to apply their expertise toward the next version of our RNC product," said Mark Rau, vice president of engineering at Airvana. "Embedded Alley's understanding of the rigorous demands of telecommunications products and their proven experience in embedded Linux solutions, were key criteria in the selection process."

"At any given time, Airvana's RNCs manage thousands of live mobile sessions, requiring processing and clustering technologies across tens of Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) boards and sometimes hundreds of disparate processor cores in a single chassis," says Dan Malek, Chief Technology Officer for Embedded Alley. "Our embedded Linux systems engineering solution allows them to achieve this while leveraging the commercial advantages of standards-based, commercial-off-the-shelf hardware and software."
